Summer Concerts and Dining in Newport Beach

Great weather this summer means outdoor music and an array of dining options. Last week we had a chance to enjoy some great music under the stars in the intimate amphitheater at The Hyatt Regency Newport Beach for their Summer Concert Series. The series will run 15 weeks and is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary offering up a stellar line-up of musicians bringing a range of genres to the stage including jazz, smooth jazz, contemporary, acoustic and vocals. As the longest running music series in California, and recognized for bringing revered musicians to southern California every year, the series continues every Friday through September 30 with all shows at 8 p.m.

We started the evening with on of Newport’s finest new establishments, Sol Cocina. We were in a hurry so we sat in the bar and enjoyed an array of their signature a la carte street tacos with a hefty portion of their home made guacamole.

Hint:
They are also recognized for their fantastic tequila cocktails, a great way to start the evening!

We then head to The Hyatt which was less then a 5 minute drive Sol. A full yet smaller sized audience watched as the sun set behind the stage and musicians Mindi Abair, Jeff Golub and David Pack came together to take us through an evening of smooth Jazz. What a treat it was!

Elegant dining, oyster shucking and classic seafood await you at Gulfstream. Carrie W. from yelp shared her experience from her last Father’s Day:

This is my Father’s favorite place to dine! Our table was perfect, Amara was a friendly and knowledgable on the food. Food was amazing. We had the Fried Shrimp and Salmon, all cooked perfectly. For dessert Amara suggessted the Berries which were seasonal. Great suggestion!! Look forward to returning soon.”

Newport Landing:

We’ve mentioned this brunch hotspot before but take a tip from Renee D. on yelp:

*Yelper Tip: “I’ve been to the Newport Landing many times and have never been disappointed.  The food is delicious, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the view is amazing.  This is my absolute favorite place to go for Sunday brunch (extensive & diverse buffet including fresh seafood and breakfast favs…..don’t miss out on the bread pudding, soooo good!).  As gorgeous as the view is during the day, I thinks it’s even prettier at night. They have great drinks and I absolutely love their coconut shrimp (it comes with a mango salsa), and sometimes they have live music.”

Rustica:

Father’s Day gets simplified by Rustica in Fashion Island. They know what every dad wants STEAK. POTATO. BEER.

Brasserie Pascal:

While Rustica gets simple, you can always count on just the oposite a few doors down at Brasserie Pascal. Here is what Jocelyn C. shared about here Father’s Day last year:

*Yelper Tip: “I came here for Father’s Day. They have a brunch menu as well as a regular menu…The portions are generous in my opinion. After we polished off our meals, we ordered the chocolate souffle. I saw that a few other tables ordered this as well. Please note that you have to order in advance because it takes 25 minutes to make. It was worth the wait! The chocolate souffle is really one of the best that I’ve ever tasted! Overall, I’m very satisfied with our visit. Many thanks to Pascal’s for making this one of the most memorable Father’s Day for my Dad.”

JUST FOR FUN

Zovs Cookies:

Sharon Ellen Whelan on Facebook says, “Love this one…cute gift idea with a bottle of beer, a couple of these cookies, peanuts, movie tickets and a gift certificate to Zov’s all in a wrapped basket with WSJ shred in the bottom. That’s going to be my gift to my hubby for Father’s Day. He’s hinting about a lobster dinner – that can be a gift from our 3 boys…KA-CHING!”

The Counter:

The Counter is spreading the love by offering all dads a free 1/3-pound burger on Father’s Day with their BFD (Burger for Dad) offer! You just need to bring dad in, and order your own, too. Choose from 312,000 possible burger combinations on Sunday. Offer valid for 1/3 lb. burger. Additional and premium toppings cost extra.

Mama D’s for Fun:

Is you papa a fun-loving pizza or pasta eater? Check out David V.’s review of his Father’s Day on yelp:

*Yelper Tip: “This place is awesome! I came here on Saturday night to celebrate Father’s Day a day early. Right away I knew this place was going to be simply awesome just from the energy of the place and it did not disappoint. When we rolled up to Mama D’s, you instantly notice the place is packed and you can hear the commotion from inside. Peering into the restaurant, you can easily tell people are having a good time, enjoying some drinks and eating good food. While we wait, the hostess offered some garlic bread and it was great. Definitely a sign of things to come. We ended up ordering a salad and two medium pizzas for everyone to share…I would easily say the pizza borders between a standard thin crust pizza and a gourmet pizza. It was that good!… You have to try Mama D’s though. This place has it all. Great food, great atmosphere, and great service.”

Ten for Fine Sushi Savings:
